6.2 Tracking Hours: Overview

Updated over 3 weeks ago

Kansas Count Day is one of the few times during the year when we need to carefully track your student’s learning time. To make this simple, we’ve set up a clock-in/clock-out system right inside your OpenEd account. Think of it like logging work hours — your student “clocks in” when they start learning and “clocks out” when they take breaks or finish.

Here’s what to know up front:

  • 6 hours per day required: Each student must log at least 6 hours of learning time on each of the three designated Count Days.

  • Easy access: You can use a phone, tablet, laptop, or desktop — anywhere you can log in at opened.co.

  • Stay active: Students can open other tabs, use outside resources, or join live sessions (see Article 6.3 for ideas), but the tracking page must stay open. If it’s closed, the timer stops.

  • Check back in: Students should clock in and out throughout the day to show active engagement — not just log on once and leave it running.

  • Multiple students? No problem. Your students can log hours at the same time on the count day dashboard.

This process helps us meet state requirements and keeps OpenEd available as a flexible option for Kansas families.
