6.5 Kansas Count Day FAQs

Updated over 3 weeks ago

Q: Why are we doing three days instead of one?

A: The state (KSDE) determines funding for virtual programs based on the two longest learning days during the official count window. Instead of asking families to log daily during the count window, we’ve chosen the least disruptive option: just three days. This gives us enough to submit the best two days (as required) and still have a buffer in case one day doesn’t meet their standards. It’s a way of protecting both your student’s eligibility and your family’s flexibility, without overwhelming you with unnecessary logging.

So while Augusta and some districts may only highlight one official “count day,” for virtual programs like ours the requirement works differently. Our approach (asking for three) meets compliance while minimizing the burden on families.

Q: Is there a time of day that learning must be completed on my count days?

A: All learning must be tracked by 11pm on your count days.

Q: How can my student track electives or PE as it's part of their typical learning day?
A: Choose the required subject that is the best cross-curricular match.

Q: What if I have more than one student? How will they log their time?

A: Each student has their own Count Day tab in the platform. They will log hours separately. They can do it all from the same parent account or their individual student accounts.

Q: Can a student log all 6 hours in one subject on the same day? Or do they need to use multiple subjects across the day?

A: We ask that the log reflects what your student actually did on their Count Day. Most students will naturally have a mix of subjects within a 6-hour day, but if your child spends that day diving deep into a single subject, it’s fine to record all 6 hours there. The key is that the logged subjects should match your student’s real learning for the day.

Q: How often will my student be asked to confirm they’re still learning?

A: After 45 minutes, your student will see a prompt asking if they’re still studying. If they don’t respond within 20 minutes, the session will automatically time out.
