Your student’s participation in Utah’s statewide assessments helps to ensure that all learners have access to a high-quality education. Statewide testing provides valuable information that helps improve instruction, allocate resources, and support student success.
These assessments are based on the Utah Core Standards and the WIDA English Language Development Standards, which define what students should know and be able to do at each grade level. To learn more, please visit the USBE State Assessments page.
Your student will take their assessments through their assigned school of enrollment. You can view your student's school of enrollment in the bottom left corner of the OpenEd platform, right above your name.

How To Opt Out
Some assessments are required for all applicable students, while others offer an opt-out option.

RISE (Summative) | Grades 3-8 | The RISE (Summative) assessment is a standardized assessment that evaluates student proficiency and is given at the end of the school year. | Mar. 10-June 5

Utah Aspire Plus | Grades 9-10 | The Utah Aspire Plus assessment is a hybrid of ACT Aspire and Utah Core test items. It’s a computer delivered, fixed form end-of-grade-level high school assessment for students in 9 and 10. | Mar. 2-May 8 | Please email [email protected] to obtain the opt-out form. | Virtual, unless the student has OSSE, we will coordinate with the school to make the arrangement for in-person. | Utah Aspire Plus is a timed assessment for 9th & 10th Graders that takes place in one sitting (4 hours):

ACT | Grade 11 | The ACT test is a curriculum-based education and career planning tool for high school students that assesses the mastery of college readiness standards.
Students who are enrolled as juniors in a public high school are eligible to take the state-funded 11th-grade ACT one time. | Mar. 15-Apr. 15 | Please email [email protected] to obtain the opt-out form. | In-person
The ACT is administered in-person at a secure testing location. Most OpenEd students will take the ACT at their local boundary high school which the assessment team will coordinate. | ACT is a timed assessment for 11th Graders that takes place in one sitting (135 minutes):
