3.4 Direct Orders Overview (Minnesota 25-26)

Updated this week

To supplement your student’s education, you can place direct orders for materials through approved vendors like Amazon and Rainbow Resource – straight through the OpenEd platform.

The cost of your purchases will be deducted from your student’s wallet, so you won’t have to wait to be reimbursed. After our team approves your order, your items will be shipped directly to your door.

How It Works

After logging into our platform, you’ll see a Direct Orders section on the lefthand sidebar.

Below the title Direct Orders, you can click on either Amazon or Rainbow Resource to initiate a shopping session. (Note: At the very beginning of the school year, the Rainbow Resource option might not be available yet. We’ll be adding it soon!)

You can also start a shopping session by clicking on the Shop Amazon button that’s available in the top right corner of the marketplace.

Either way, you’ll be taken to a page that lets you review the available funds for each of your students.

When you’re ready, click on the Start Shopping button, which will redirect you to Amazon or Rainbow Resource (depending on your selection). You can shop around exactly as you would if you’d visited those sites like normal.

After you add all of your items to your cart, you’ll be sent back to the OpenEd platform to confirm your order.

You'll be asked to associate each item with a subject on your student’s education plan so our team has a sense of how your purchases relate to your family’s learning.

We recommend that you fill out the optional field to tell our team how your student will use the item; this gives us important context about how your order connects to your student's personalized education!

Then, select which student's wallet you would like the item to be associated with.

You can also split each purchase between multiple students' wallets. Just click the Add Another Wallet button, then enter how much of the total cost you'd like to be taken from each wallet.

And that’s it! We’ll send you an email letting you know as soon as your purchases are approved. Once they are, you’ll receive tracking info from Amazon or Rainbow Resource via email.

If you have any questions about an order, shoot us a message at [email protected].

Viewing Your Orders

To view the status of your orders, click on the Orders menu option from the lefthand sidebar.

This page lets you see all of your orders – which includes both direct orders and anything you’ve purchased through the OpenEd marketplace.

The status of each order is visible in the top right corner of that order’s info card.

Canceling An Order

If you need to cancel an order, click on that order’s info card from the Orders page.

If the order is still pending (meaning that it hasn’t been approved/fulfilled yet), you’ll see a Cancel Order button in the top right corner.

Returning An Order

If you would like to return a direct order, please reach out to our team at [email protected] or chat with one of our support agents by clicking on the little convo icon in the bottom right corner of the OpenEd platform.

Troubleshooting Common Issues

Orders Cancelled After Price Increase

If Amazon or Rainbow Resource increases the price of one of your items after you place your order, you may receive an email letting you know that the order has been cancelled. This happens to make sure that you're not paying more than you agreed to when you first placed the order.

If your order is cancelled, please place the order again. We know that this can be frustrating - our team is looking into a solution further down the road to allow you to approve or reject the price increase before the order is cancelled.

Orders Cancelled Due To Unavailable Item

If Amazon or Rainbow Resource runs out of stock for one of your items after your order is placed, you may receive an email letting you know that the order has been cancelled.

When this happens, please place your order again without the unavailable item. We know that this can be an inconvenience for your family - in the future, our team hopes to implement an enhancement that allows you to choose whether you'd like your order to be fulfilled without any unavailable items.
