2.2 Education Plan Requirements (Oregon 25-26)

Updated over a week ago

Required Subjects

Your student’s education plan includes a few required subjects based on their grade level. These core subjects help us maintain compliance and ensure a well-rounded learning experience.

Grades K–5

Students in grades K–5 are expected to participate in the following subjects each week throughout the school year:

  • Math

  • Language Arts

  • Science

That’s it! These foundational subjects cover key areas of early learning. Families are also welcome to add optional independent study subjects to explore other interests, but only these three are required for tracking.

Grades 6–8

Students in grades 6–8 have a little more to cover during the year. Their education plan will include:

  • Math

  • Language Arts

  • Science

  • Student’s Choice (Elective)

  • Student’s Choice (Elective)

  • Student’s Choice (Elective)

In addition to the core subjects (math, language arts, and science), students will choose three subjects they’re interested in to add to the education plan. These can reflect personal passions, future goals, or areas they want to explore more deeply.

Your education plan helps shape what is tied to your learning log. As you think about the subjects your student will study regularly, use those to meet the minimum education plan requirements. Sometimes you’ll just choose a subject, and other times you’ll pick a specific course too. It’s that simple!

How Required Subjects Affect Your Student's Day-to-Day Learning

Your education plan informs what your student will add to their weekly learning log. Through the learning log, your student will submit a short reflection on any subject area or competency that they focused on over the last week.

Your student's state-certified teacher will review their learning logs to track their participation, as well as to provide some positive and supportive feedback.

Making Changes To Your Student's Education Plan

After the school year begins, you will only be able to make changes to your student's required subjects (and any electives) at the end of the Fall semester.

When that editing period opens up, you will be able to make changes to your student's education plan for the Spring semester.

Independent studies, however, can be changed at any point during the school year. Feel free to add or drop an independent study from your student's education plan at any time.
