Q: Do students in Grades K–2 take state tests?

A: No. Arkansas does not require statewide summative assessments for Grades K–2.

Q: What tests do students in Grades 3–10 take?

A: Students in Grades 3–10 take the ATLAS each year. This state test measures academic progress in English, Math and Science.

Q: What if my child is an English Learner (EL)?

A: All English Learners (K–12) take the ELPA21 assessment annually.

Q: Are there alternative assessments for students with disabilities?

A: Yes. Students with significant cognitive disabilities (K–12) may be eligible for DLM (Dynamic Learning Maps) assessments instead of ATLAS. These are aligned to alternate academic achievement standards as outlined in a student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP).

Q: Can I opt my child out of state testing in Arkansas?

A: No, Arkansas does not allow formal opt-outs from required state assessments.
