1.2A Choice Scholarship Overview (Indiana 25-26)

Overview:

To enroll your student in OpenEd Indiana for the 2025–26 school year, they must be approved for the Indiana Choice Scholarship. As part of your enrollment process, you'll complete a required task to submit the information needed for this approval.

This guide walks you through what’s required, how the process works, and answers common questions.

How the Choice Scholarship Process Works:

  1. Check if you're eligible: View the income guidelines here.

  2. Complete your Choice Scholarship Enrollment Task: Log in to the OpenEd platform and fill out the required fields.

  3. We’ll review your information: If anything is missing or unclear, we’ll contact you

  4. Get approved: We’ll notify you as soon as your student’s scholarship is approved

  5. Finish the remaining enrollment steps: Complete any outstanding tasks in your OpenEd dashboard.

  6. Welcome to OpenEd Indiana!

Documents You’ll Need to Upload

To complete the Choice Scholarship task, please gather the following:

  • 2024 Tax Return (IRS Form 1040)

    • Line #11 must be filled for each household member that was required to file a tax return

    • Note: A completed 2024 Tax Return is needed from each household member that filed a federal tax return this year

  • Certified Birth Certificate

    • Alternate options: Student passport, visa, or a court order showing date of birth.

  • Proof of Residency: Choose one document from either list below:

    • Accepted at any time:

      • Current lease with dates and signatures; Property deed; Medicaid/medicare benefit statement; Current vehicle registration; Document from U.S. government office; Property tax bill; Signed certified letter return receipt

    • Issued within the past 60 days:

      • Gas, water, electric, sewage, cable, or phone bill; Rent or mortgage statement; Doctor or hospital bill; Credit card bill; Pay stub; Bank statement; Wireless services bill

  • IEP (if applicable)

Important Notes:

  • Approval for the Choice Scholarship is required to participate in OpenEd Indiana.

  • For the 26-27 school year the Choice Scholarship will remove the income verification process, so this will only get easier!
