2.7 Local Performance Requirement (Oregon 25-26)

Updated over 3 weeks ago

The Oregon Department of Education requires all public school students in grades 3-8 to complete a Local Performance Requirement each school year.

This requirement is incorporated into a weekly learning log that's due in early Spring.

Students in grades 3-8 must complete a few mathematics, scientific inquiry, and writing questions online or on paper, deliver a short speech, and then submit the log.

Please note: Students in grades K-2 are not required to complete the Local Performance Requirement; their learning log will be in the regular format.

We’ll send an announcement with the 2025-26 questions at least three weeks before the learning log is due.

Local Performance Requirement FAQs

Q: Will students be required to participate in the Local Performance Requirement?

A: If your student is in grades 3-8, then the answer is yes. (If your student is in grades K-2, then they won't have to participate.)

The purpose of the Local Performance Requirement is to ensure that Oregon students are afforded opportunities to learn and receive feedback regarding their academic progress. OpenEd will collect the required documentation of these opportunities and feedback via a specially designated weekly learning log due in the spring.

Q: How do I access the questions for the Local Performance Requirement?

A: We'll share more details for the 2025-26 Local Performance Requirement a little later in the year, but we'll make sure that accessing these questions is easy for your family.

Do I still need to fill out my student's participation during the week that the Local Performance Requirement Log is due?

Yes, your student will still need to submit their participation during the week that the Local Performance Requirement Log is due.

Is the speech required?

Yes, presenting the speech to an audience of your student's choice is a required portion of the Local Performance Requirement.

However, uploading a recording of the speech to the Local Performance Requirement Log is not required. While your teacher would love to hear your student's work, sharing a recording is totally optional.

What topic should my student give their speech on?

That's completely up to them! Your student's speech can be on any topic and delivered to any audience (including your family).

If your student has already given a presentation this year, that works, too.

Can my student opt out of the Local Performance Requirement?

Unfortunately, an opt-out form is not available for this requirement. If your student is in grades 3-8, they will be required to complete the Local Performance Requirement.
