A Weekly Learning Log provides a brief summary of a student’s learning activities for the week. It serves as both a record of active participation and an official attendance report, ensuring compliance with program requirements and the Oregon Department of Education’s attendance standards. Logs can be submitted through InfoCenter by either the parent or the student.
Weekly Learning Logs can be submitted anytime during the week and are due the following Monday by 11:59 pm MT.
A caring, certified teacher will respond to each Log. Your child’s Homeroom Teacher can also offer educational support should you have questions about state standards and resources to supplement learning.
Important: A Weekly Learning Log is required every week. The Weekly Learning Log is the attendance record accountable to your School of Enrollment. Students must maintain an overall grade of 80% and have no zeros to remain enrolled.
Submitting more than four late Weekly Learning Logs during the year or receiving 0% on multiple Weekly Learning Logs may necessitate withdrawal.
How to fill out a Weekly Learning Log:
Log in to Homeroom each week through InfoCenter and complete the following steps:
Review Participation: Review your student's participation and provide a reason for any unexcused absences.
Add Required Reflection: Provide a 3-5 sentence reflection on your week related to any subject area or competency.
You can submit a written or oral reflection via the text box, an uploaded document (20 MB max), or a link to a document, blog, or video.
Select Competencies (Optional): Select any competencies your student has developed during the week. This is a great way to track progress outside of traditional subjects.
Share More (Optional): Feel free to share fun comments, questions, or feedback with your Homeroom Teacher in the final text box.

Participation:
We understand that families may have extenuating circumstances, such as hospitalization, serious illness or injury, or family emergencies, that completely prevent a student from participating in educational activities during the day. As such, you may excuse daily participation for up to twenty days per year.
IMPORTANT: As regular active participation is a requirement of our personalized education program, students with 10 or more consecutive absences (excused or unexcused) may need to withdraw. Note that there is a maximum of 20 total absences available per program year.
Monthly Portfolio of Work:
The monthly portfolio of work is a collection of your student’s favorite projects (like a scrapbook, journal, or files of their work) that can be shared with our partner schools upon request. If you are selected to share your student’s portfolio, a representative from the partner school will email you to schedule a video chat at a convenient time for you and your student.
Weekly Learning Log & Participation FAQs
How is participation recorded in the Weekly Learning Log?
Enter your student’s daily participation by selecting “Participation” from the available options in the left navigation bar in InfoCenter. When you submit the Weekly Learning Log, you’ll have the chance to review your student’s participation and make edits, if needed.
When can I access the Weekly Learning Log, and how long do I have to submit it?
The Weekly Learning Log will be accessible 21 days before the due date. During this time, you can add the required reflection and optional information at any point within the 21-day window.
Daily participation details can be added starting the Monday before the Log’s due date. We recommend submitting the Learning Log after you have reviewed the week’s participation record and before the Log submission deadline.
Can I submit my Weekly Learning Log early?
Yes! You can submit the reflection and optional comments for your teacher’s review early. Responses to the “Do you need help with anything?” text box will be added to the submitted Log record and will be included when your teacher accesses the Log for review. However, participation cannot be recorded, and excused absences cannot be documented in advance.
My child is working on the same subjects every day. Can I submit the same reflection for each Weekly Learning Log?
To accurately demonstrate participation and attendance, it is important to submit a unique reflection for each Log.
What if I go on vacation?
We know vacations are often a great opportunity for learning, but it's also perfectly fine to miss some days! The goal is not 100% attendance but rather an accurate record of when learning takes place. Feel free to use the optional comments box within the Learning Log to let your teacher know about your family’s vacation plans in advance. If learning activities happen while you’re away, students are welcome to share their experiences in their Weekly Learning Log. Safe travels, and we’d love to hear about your adventures when you return!
My child has already used an excused Learning Log this year. Does that count against their 20 total absences?
Yes, previously excused Learning Logs do count toward the 20 total absences allowed for the program year. Each excused Log represents five excused absences. For example, if your student has two excused Logs, that will count as ten excused absences.
What is the difference between an excused and unexcused absence?
Each unexcused absence will result in a 10% deduction from the Learning Log score. Excused absences do not negatively impact the score.
My child submitted their Learning Log early, but we haven’t heard back from their teacher. When can we expect to hear from them?
Thank you for being on top of submitting Learning Logs! Teachers begin grading Logs after the deadline to ensure students have enough time to complete their daily participation. If more than a week has passed since the grading deadline and you still haven’t received an update, feel free to contact your child’s Homeroom Teacher for clarification.
Can I keep a copy of my child’s Weekly Learning Logs?
Sure! Feel free to create them in Word or Google Docs and then upload the document or paste a link to the document into your Weekly Learning Log.
Why am I getting notified that my student has missing or incomplete Weekly Learning Logs?
A missed or incomplete Log will result in an intervention notice.
We are invested in your student’s progress and want them to succeed. To be eligible for our program, students must maintain active participation in the program, as demonstrated by filling out your student’s daily participation and Weekly Learning Log submissions.
You can check your student’s Weekly Learning Log submission status and Homeroom grade anytime in InfoCenter under Homeroom.
A student may be withdrawn if the Weekly Learning Logs are consistently late or incomplete. We will notify you by email if your student is missing a Log or their Homeroom grade drops below 80%.
Review our Withdrawal/Repayment Policy for students who withdraw before the end of the school year.
Do I need to save my child's work until the end of the program year?
Please have a collection of work samples from the current program year ready in case you are selected to share a monthly portfolio of work with our school partner. You do not need to hang on to work samples after the program year has ended.
If I respond to the text message, do I still need to update the Participation slider to reflect the hours we worked?
While your student's daily participation is recorded by responding to the text message, you can still adjust the slider, if needed, before submitting the log each week.
How can I still take flexible breaks at times that work for my family?
Students will be marked absent if they haven't recorded participation for a given day. However, we understand that flexibility in learning and scheduling is important. If circumstances arise that prevent participation, don't feel bad about recording an absence. It's all part of the process!
