3rd Party Provider course

A live group class taught by a community organization or business where the parent pays for the class and can be reimbursed for the tuition (not fees or supplies) up to $300/period.

Essential communications from OpenEd about key events, program highlights, and policy updates. You can view all current and past Announcements in InfoCenter.

Custom-built course

Approved learning resources, tutoring, lessons, classes, and educational supplies are purchased by the parent and can be reimbursed up to $250/period.

Direct Order

OpenEd can order and pay for approved items for Custom-built courses and Technology Allowance purchases and have them shipped directly to the student. A Direct Order Request form must be submitted in InfoCenter.

Direct Order Request

By submitting a Direct Order Request form in InfoCenter, OpenEd will purchase approved resources, and the items will be shipped directly to the student. The amount of the Direct Order will then be deducted from the student’s corresponding Custom-built course or Technology Allowance funds.

Diploma-seeking / non-diploma-seeking

You can opt for your high school student to be diploma-seeking or non-diploma-seeking.

Diploma-seeking students are limited to accredited curriculum options. They receive letter grades on their transcript.

Non-diploma-seeking students have more curriculum flexibility. They receive Pass/Fail grades on their transcript.

DreamLink Learning courses

An extensive collection of technology and entrepreneurship courses designed, produced, and supported by OpenEd.

Early College Credit

Students in grades 9-12 may earn college credits while enrolled in OpenEd; the college will generate a transcript with letter grade(s).

Enrollment Packet

The documentation, including a birth certificate, up-to-date immunization record or personal exemption form, and proof of residency required to enroll your student in our program. Once you apply, an Enrollment Packet must be approved before the student is accepted into the program.

Field Trip

OpenEd arranges field trips with free or discounted entry (virtually or in-person) for students and/or families.

Homeroom

All OpenEd students have Homeroom for Period 1. Homeroom is where students submit Weekly Learning Logs and access our digital library of supplemental resources for all core subjects.

Homeroom Resources

All OpenEd students have free and unlimited access to educational resources that supplement and reinforce core subjects and State Core Standards.

Homeroom Teacher

A state-certified teacher who reviews each student’s Weekly Learning Logs and provides personalized feedback to students and support to parents.

In-person course

A live, teacher-led course held at a specific date, time, and location.

The main hub of our online program - where parents and students check in regularly.

A calendar located in InfoCenter where students and parents can see all program-related deadlines, holidays, and events in one place.

Beginning September 1, students can access their MTH Direct DreamLink Learning courses through Launchpad, a safe and secure online learning platform.

Makerspace

Makerspace classes are in-person, hands-on STEM learning classes for students offered in two locations as an OpenEd Direct course.

We also offer a Virtual Makerspace option as an OpenEd Direct course.

Monthly Portfolio of Work

A collection of your student’s favorite projects throughout the year (like a scrapbook, journal, or files of their work) that can be shared with our partner schools upon request.

OpenEd Direct options

A course or curriculum paid for and provided directly to the student by OpenEd. We offer courses developed by OpenEd and courses from partner curriculum providers. Since the parent does not purchase the curriculum, there is no reimbursement for these periods.

Online Independent course

A course that includes access to a self-paced, online curriculum and does not include an external teacher, tutor, or grader.

Online Teacher-supported course

A course that includes access to a self-paced, online curriculum and mentor or teacher support. Activities and assignments are graded, and instructors or TAs give feedback.

Online Tech Mentors

All DreamLink Learning courses are supported by experienced tech educators referred to as Tech Mentors. Tech Mentors review assignments and give positive feedback. They are also available to answer questions and help students adapt DreamLink Learning courses to their interests.

On-site Split Enrollment

With approval, students in grades 7-12 can take up to two on-site classes at their local middle school, junior high, or high school.

Parent Link

An online, interactive, digital guide that helps parents navigate the OpenEd program.

Payment Option form

A form found in Parent Link and InfoCenter, where a parent indicates their preferred payment method for reimbursement.

Proof of Residency

A utility bill, mortgage, or rental statement issued in the past 60 days that includes your address.

Request for Reimbursement

A form, and applicable receipts, submitted in InfoCenter to request reimbursement for approved Custom-built resources, 3rd Party Provider tuition, required software and materials, or Technology Allowance.

Schedule Builder

A tool in InfoCenter that allows you to design a customized schedule for each student.

School of Enrollment

OpenEd students are full-time public school students and are enrolled in one of the public schools with which we partner. Once assigned, you can find your student’s School of Enrollment under their name in your InfoCenter account. Parents can request student transcripts from the School of Enrollment.

State testing / Opt-out form

OpenEd students are required to participate in all state tests or submit a State Testing Opt-out form in InfoCenter.

Student Clubs

OpenEd offers optional opportunities for students to participate in clubs to connect with others who share similar interests.

Technology Allowance

Primarily used to ensure students have adequate access to a computer, high-speed internet, and a webcam. Technology Allowance funds may also be used for other approved educational expenses.

Webinar

An optional online conference featuring an educational speaker or business owner on topics of interest to our students.

Weekly Learning Log and Attendance Record

Online communication between a student and their Homeroom Teacher that affirms active, weekly participation and provides accountability support to parents.

Students must submit all Weekly Learning Logs and earn at least 80% each week to remain enrolled in the program.

Withdrawal

Removal from the program when it appears that it’s not a good fit for your student; review Withdrawal/Repayment Policy details.
