Can students with special needs participate in the program?
Absolutely! OpenEd seeks to help all students have a positive educational experience that best meets their needs. Students can work at their optimal pace, in an optimal setting, and at optimal times. The Special Education team at your assigned School of Enrollment provides online services for eligible students with disabilities.
How do SPED services / IEPs / Section 504 Plans work?
Once enrolled, your student will be considered a full-time public school student at one of our partner schools. They all have Special Education teams that service IEPs and Section 504 Plans. All SPED services are delivered online.
You can find information about initiating the SPED referral process here.
What resources are available for students with dyslexia?
We are dedicated to helping your child thrive with our program. OpenEd’s personalized education focus is especially beneficial for students with learning differences like dyslexia. It allows them to work at their own pace and pay special attention to specific subjects.
Our partner schools do not conduct testing for dyslexia, as this type of neurological testing is done through a medical doctor. Dyslexia Center of Utah offers screening testing and has recommendations for some great resources.
Many parents ask for suggestions on the best curriculum or learning resources to help a child struggling with dyslexia. Over the past few years, parents have shared various recommendations, which you will find here.
